It has been my experience that the most beautiful sceneries the mountains had to offer never came from paved highways or the groomed backroads. The majestic views that caused me to pause in awe were only visible when I was willing to leave the comfortable and face the challenge of traversing the trails, underbrush, and scree. There were times of darkness, moments of instability, and the reality of occasionally being disoriented.
